Cleaning vs. Disinfecting: What the Difference Means
Cleaning and disinfection describe different tasks. Understanding the difference helps you ask for the right scope and avoid treating a fragrance or quick spray as proof that a surface has been disinfected.
What Cleaning Does
Cleaning removes soil and other material from a surface using an appropriate method. In an ordinary cleaning plan, the material and use of the surface determine which task is suitable.
What a Disinfectant Requires
Where disinfection is appropriate and agreed, the product must be intended for the surface and use. Follow its preparation, application, wet contact-time and any rinsing directions; there is no universal contact time for every product.

Avoid Unsafe Shortcuts
Do not mix cleaning products or disinfectants. Follow label precautions for ventilation, personal protection and keeping people or animals away during treatment. More concentrated product is not automatically more appropriate.
